BDO launches its presence in Burundi with new office in Bujumbura

Global accounting and consulting firm BDO has expanded its presence in East Africa with the launch of a new firm in Burundi.

The new BDO firm, based in Bujumbura at the offices at Venus Business Towers, marks an expansion of BDO’s footprint in Africa, and particularly for its East Africa cluster which also has offices in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the Republic of Congo.

Bujumbura, formerly Usumbura, is the economic capital, largest city and main port of Burundi. It ships most of the country’s chief export, coffee, as well as cotton and tin ore. Bujumbura was formerly the country’s political capital.

The expansion comes shortly after BDO strengthened its presence in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Republic of Congo. In both countries, BDO welcomed teams from PwC, which in April announced its retreat from both counties and several other African nations as part of a strategic review at the global level.

In Africa, BDO has a network of around 55 offices, providing coverage across most of the continent. Its largest African practice is in South Africa.
