BDO grows presence in Democratic Republic of Congo with PwC’s team

BDO has expanded its presence in East Africa with the addition of PwC’s former member firm in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Hot on the heels of PwC’s exit from the Democratic Republic of Congo and several other African markets, BDO has moved swiftly to seize the opportunity, bringing PwC’s local team on board to strengthen its presence in the country.

Blaise Mbatshi, Country Senior Partner & Managing Director at BDO in the Democratic Republic of Congo, said that most of the partners and staff of PwC’s business will become part of BDO, effective July 1, 2025.

“The team joining BDO enjoys a strong reputation in the Democratic Republic of Congo, thanks to its deep sector expertise and longstanding commitment to delivering high-quality audit and advisory services. This team has earned the trust of a prestigious and diverse client base, including key players in the banking, mining, telecommunications, and energy sectors, as well as public sector entities and international NGOs,” Mbatshi said.

BDO will operate from offices in Kinshasa and Lubumbashi, providing the firm with a presence in the country’s main economic hubs.

“This integration marks a strategic step forward in our development. It combines deep local knowledge with the strength of a global network, ensuring continuity in the quality of service while enhancing access to innovative solutions tailored to today’s increasingly complex and global challenges,” said Elisée Kiluba, Managing Partner at BDO in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Earlier this year, BDO also poached PwC’s member firm in the Republic of Congo.

Mark Stewart, Regional Director for Africa at BDO, said: “This expansion aligns with BDO’s ongoing growth strategy in Africa. It not only reinforces BDO’s leadership in the Democratic Republic of Congo but also strengthens regional synergies within our East Africa cluster, which now includes Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ethiopia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Republic of Congo, and Burundi.”
