APO Group and Kwesé Sports team up to promote African rugby internationally
As a close ally of Rugby Africa, media relations consultancy APO Group has embarked on the task of promoting African rugby in the international market, and has announced a strategic alliance with Kwesé Sports to help with the process. The duo will focus on improving the overall reputation and image of the sport across the continent.
Rugby is rapidly gaining popularity as a sport in a number of African countries, but the global rugby arena is yet to fully embrace African rugby, particularly in terms of viewership. Swiss media relations consulting firm APO Group has been working towards rectifying this situation, in collaboration with Rugby Africa.
The firm was recently tasked with sponsoring and distributing the Rugby Africa Gold Cup 2018, wherein it paid special attention to the imaging of the tournament. The firm brought global stock photography and visual communications firm Getty Images on board for the tournament, with hopes to reach the 1 million+ subscribers to the firm. Now, APO Group has engaged Kwesé Sports – the sports content division of Kwesé TV – to help build a reputation for African Rugby across the globe. Kwesé is already in possession of exclusive rights to distribute Rugby Africa content across the continent, which will now be bolstered by full access to APO Group’s press release dissemination service – Africa Wire.
APO will also offer support to Kwesé in the form of media relations expertise, as well as sponsorship support by incorporating Kwesé’s digital assets within its sponsorship programme. The addition of Kwesé benefits APO, given that the former has a viewership network across Africa, provided in some regions through a tie up with ESPN.
Commenting on the partnership, Founder and CEO of APO Group Nicolas Pompogne-Mognard said, “Kwesé is the strongest sports broadcaster in sub-Saharan with which APO Group has built fruitful relationships over the past few months to support Rugby Africa, World Rugby’s African association, in increasing the visibility of its international competitions.”
He added, “We are very excited to deepen our collaboration through this partnership and further combine our expertise. Both Kwesé and APO Group are widely recognised as major players in the media landscape, and I’m convinced that this potent collaboration will help further expand the reach of African rugby in new local and global markets.”
