Ogilvy Africa takes home three PR Excellence Awards for its media campaigns
Global advertising giant Ogilvy has dominated at the 7th edition of the Public Relations Excellence Awards held in Ghana, bagging three titles at the event. The firm won the award for PE Campaign of the Year, Best Community Relations Programme of the Year, and Best in Social Media Communications.
The firm received a total of four nominations for the award ceremony, and emerged ahead of 13 other firms in order to bag the three accolades. This was the first time that Ogilvy submitted entries to the PR Excellence Awards in Ghana, and came away as the most awarded consultancy at the event.
The award for the Best Community Relations Programme of the Year was presented in recognition of the firm’s work on the Ghanaians Against Child Abuse campaign, which was followed by a Nationwide Community Mobile Theatre Roadshow that was commissioned by the Government of Ghana in partnership with UNICEF.
Meanwhile, the title of Best in Social Media Communications was bestowed in recognition of the firm’s work with Coca-Cola’s Coke Studio Africa. The firm has been particularly active across Ghana and its surrounding regions, particularly as the region has emerged as a politically stable, lucrative area of investment.
The award ceremony was organised by the Institute for Public Relations and took place at La-Palm Beach Hotel in Accra. Other firms that bagged awards at the event include Touchpoint Magna Carata, which was named Ghana’s PR Consultancy of the Year. The theme of the event was “Deriving Value from Values: a test for Corporate Governance.”
Commenting on the awards, PR Business Lead for Ogilvy Africa Cynthia Ofori-Dwumfuo said, “As a fairly new practice that has done PR projects in Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, and Ivory Coast, it is refreshing for the team to be recognised after two years in one of our key markets. At Ogilvy we believe in purpose driven PR so everything we do for our clients is tailored towards measurable impact. With a focus on new media and digital influence, we are pushing the limits on traditional PR.”
Regional Managing Director at the firms Akua Owusu-Nartey said, “Investing in our PR practice is one of the best things we’ve done as a business. It has allowed us to harness the PR capability we are known for on a global scale, within the region for several clients. The PR team has done a phenomenal job adding value to our Clients businesses, and we look to the future with optimism.”
