Kamoa Copper selects Deloitte as partner for finance transformation project

Kamoa Copper, one of Africa’s larger copper mining companies, has selected Deloitte as its partner for a finance transformation project.

A joint venture between the government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ivanhoe Mines and Zijin Mining Group, among others, Kamoa Copper oversees the Kamoa-Kakula Copper Complex, situated in the Central African Copperbelt near Kolwezi. The group employs over 7,000 people.

With the aim to improve its financial planning and reporting capabilities, Kamoa Copper has launched a project that will shift its financial planning processes from Excel to a more robust and modern system.

“Budgeting and forecasting within the mining industry pose unique challenges, particularly when reliant on traditional Excel solutions. This method often leads to inefficiencies, hampering the ability to manage operational and capital expenditure costs effectively,” explained Jean-Pierre van Staden, Executive Director of Finance at Kamoa Copper.

Recognising the need for modernisation, Kamoa Copper sought a financial planning platform that could enhance its way of working. That search led the company to Anaplan, one of the leading systems in the market.

“We strive to be at the forefront of financial innovation, and the implementation of Anaplan’s platform is a game-changer for Kamoa Copper. It empowers us to be more agile, more strategic, and more proactive in our financial and operational planning,” Van Staden stated.

Implementation partner: Deloitte

Deloitte has been selected as the consulting partner to support the implementation within the business. The decision comes as no big surprise – Deloitte has been recognized as Anaplan’s Global Partner of the Year for eleven consecutive years and brings a strong track record in Anaplan roll-outs across Africa.

The consulting firm will assist Kamoa Copper with technical delivery and implementation, project management, and change management, ensuring the Finance team is fully prepared for the new processes and ways of working.

Commenting on the project, Andries van den Berg, Director at Deloitte, said: “Deloitte is honored to work alongside Kamoa Copper to deliver a budgeting solution that will transform their financial planning capabilities. Our industry insights and technical expertise are the cornerstones of this project, and we are committed to propelling Kamoa Copper from where they are today to where they want to be.”

“With Anaplan, Kamoa Copper can achieve a unified, consistent view of data across the organisation, enhancing accuracy and enabling more informed decision-making.”
