Andersen Global adds two new countries to its African network

29 August 2018 Consultancy.africa

Global professional services association Andersen Global’s expansion across the African consulting market continues, this time with a foray into the fast developing markets of Mozambique and Angola. The expansion comes through the addition of Maputo-based Isalcio Mahanjane e Associados, and Luanda-based Oliveira & Associados respectively.

Anderson Global is among the stalwarts of the international consulting industry, having emerged after the dissolution of former Big Five accounting and advisory firm Arthur Andersen. The firm has since grown to employ over 2,500 professionals worldwide, operations in 90 countries, an increasing portion of which are now situated in Africa.

Since the start of this year, Andersen has already expanded its presence from two locations in Nigeria to enter two more countries. In January, the firm entered into the Ugandan market through the addition of Kampala-based Ligomarc Associates to its network, following which the firm entered the Kenyan market through a collaboration with Nexus Business Advisory in Nairobi.

Now, Andersen Global will operate in Angola as well, after collaborating with Luanda-based law firm Oliveira & Associados (O&A) – a relatively new firm established in 2016. O&A was founded by Formosa Oliveira and offers legal services in the private as well as the corporate domains, with operations extending across the continent.

Commenting on the new addition, Andersen Global Chairman Mark Vorsatz said, “the economy in Angola is one of the fastest growing in the world, and we are excited about adding this practice in a market that has a strong connection to Portugal and is strategic to our business in Portugal. Oliveira & Associados is an energetic and talented group, and with the addition of Isalcio Mahanjane e Associados in Mozambique last week, we have added key locations in our Portuguese and Iberian strategy.”

Vorsatz refers to an agreement signed with the Maputo-based firm a week before the Angola deal, which incorporates over 10 professionals from Isalcio Mahanjane e Associados, who specialise in various aspects of law including the corporate, financial, labour, real estate and administrative domains.

At the time, Managing Partner of the Maputo firm, Isalcio Mahanjane commented, "Providing best-in-class legal services and focusing on professional ethics is a top priority for us. Collaborating with Andersen Global will allow us to continue to put our clients first and expand upon our current capabilities by collaborating with member firms of the international association."

Oliveira, meanwhile, added that “collaborating with Andersen Global will help us extend our reach as we develop and seamlessly deliver cross-border solutions, With added tax and legal services, we will be more fully able to meet the needs of our clients.”
